Parenting
Coordinators
A Parenting Coordinator is defined as a licensed mental
health provider and/or a certified family mediator
with a minimum of three years of extensive experience
in the following disciplines: family systems theory,
developmental psychology, high-conflict divorce resolution
techniques including mediation, child adjustment issues
specific to divorce including parental alienation,
domestic violence and abuse, and knowledge of the legal
facets of divorce. All Parenting Coordinators on the
Family Court Services Resource List have also taken
a mandatory four-hour training session on the procedures
they are expected to follow.
The Family Court Services Unit of the Administrative
Office of the Courts has compiled a list of Parenting
Coordinators for court-ordered referrals. The list
includes professionals who have met the Eleventh Judicial
Circuit requirements, which allows them to be appointed
as Parenting Coordinators to high-conflict cases. A
Parenting Coordinator is defined as a licensed mental

A
Parenting Coordinator is court-ordered to high conflict
cases in order to help the parties implement their
parenting plan, monitor compliance with the details
of their time-sharing arrangement, and help them resolve
their child-related disputes in a timely manner. The
Parenting Coordinator may provide education on effective
co-parenting strategies, and may refer the parties
to community resources for services and treatment,
if necessary. When the parties agree, the court order
gives the Parenting Coordinator the authority to make
temporary decisions on child-related issues in order
to immediately relax the parents’ conflict. These
decisions may not be substantive in nature, and may
not change the custody arrangements of the children.

Coordination in Family Law Cases
with the Court Order of Referral to Parenting Coordinator,
which describes the court-ordered functions of a pParenting
cCoordinator. The standard Order of Referral to Parenting
Coordinator should be used in all cases. As per the
Order, both parties must contact Family Court Services,
who will provide the referral, coordinate the process,
and monitor compliance for the court.
The Court may request the Family Court Services Unit
may be requested by the Court to provide Pparenting
Ccoordination to indigent partiescases. Additionally,
please see the Administrative
Order 07-01 Amending Administrative Order in Re: Parenting
Coordination
in Family Law Cases, which provides that Parenting
Coordinators can be appointed to Unified Family Court
Cases.
